About Cath Duncan
I'm Cath Duncan, a South African Mama, Social Worker, and Artist living in Cape Town, South Africa. Welcome to my global gallery.
Suddenly and unexpectedly visually impaired since the age of 34, I had to find new ways of making art. I was drawn to paper collage and mixed media work. Given my experiences of loss and grief, and being a transplant recipient, adoptive mother, and specialist in grief support, I deeply resonate with the metaphors invoked by my collage and multimedia creative processes. These are metaphors of breaking apart and coming back together in new ways, and of layering pieces from different beginnings together to make something new that honours all the unique and rich textures in each layer.
My paper collages and multimedia artworks are a celebration of light, colour, texture, and composition. The subjects I choose are most often simple, ordinary things in life that bring me joy that I want to savour. Like botanicals, moody skies, insights I want to hold onto, and feelings I love to feel.
I hope my fine art prints that travel around the world will bring you as much healing and delight as they've brought me. Drop me an email with a photo of your art print in its new home, and tell me what it means to you. I love to hear your stories.
Alongside my art, and the notes I share about my creative process, you can find resources on grief, trauma, chronic illness, and disabilities at http://www.cathduncan.com/
Big love,
Cath
